WEDDINGS

Congratulations! Both on your decision to marry and on your desire to ask God to bless your relationship with a ceremony designed to reflect the heart of your commitment to one another.

Marriage is a gift of God, intended for the joy and strength of those who enter it for the well being of the whole human family.  University Lutheran is honored to offer the blessing of Jesus Christ to couples of all sexual orientations and gender identities.  We welcome both members and non-members to be married in our beautiful sanctuary.  Lutherans believe that marriage is both a sacred and civil rite, licensed by the state, consecrated, proclaimed, blessed and celebrated by the church.  Weddings may be scheduled during a regular Sunday service or on other days, typically a Saturday.

We hope that the wedding ceremony you create will enable you to celebrate God’s abundant blessing and to communicate this to all who gather with you on this festive day!

BAPTISMS

Baptized into Christ we are formed as God’s people in life, in death, and for all eternity.  Lutherans, like most Christians, baptize anyone and everyone-from the tiniest infant to the very elderly. This belief comes from the command of Jesus to “baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Baptisms take place during worship and are a sacrament of the church.  Baptisms can be scheduled on Tuesdays at 6:15 PM or Sundays at 10:30 AM.  One does not need to be a member of University Lutheran or have a church background in order to be baptized. 

As Lutherans we believe that in Baptism, God freely offers his grace and lovingly establishes a new relationship with us and creates the faith community.  It is in Baptism that people become members of Christ’s Body on earth, the Church.
